Lots Going On – Zwift, Bulging Disk, and Swimming Update!

Lots Going On – Zwift, Bulging Disk, and Swimming Update!

There’s lots going on this week, but despite that somehow I haven’t managed to carve out time to write something down. So here goes. Zwift! I have decided to give Zwift a try. I still love TrainerRoad, but am finding that at 5:00 AM when I get up to ride I’m really not in the mood to watch Netflix. I spend more time trying to find something to watch than I do getting the other stuff set up to ride….

Saturday and Sunday were taken as rest days though due to the long weekend. I was at the cottage and thought it would be a good time for a mental break. Hoping the rest also helps clean up some of the back/sciatica problems. I’m…

Busting Out

Busting Out

I’m busting out of this rut. Here’s what’s up. This morning I had a terrible ride. That makes 2 of the last 4 rides being awful, with the others being not particularly great. Antelope +5 is 7 x 10 min in the sweet spot over 2 hrs. Should be do-able. I’ve done it before. It’s actually kind of fun. But it sucked, hard. So hard in fact that I stopped my ride mid-ride. I finished the first hour and quit….

In a bit of a rut it seems

In a bit of a rut it seems

I am thinking it is definitely temporary but I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately. Cycling is going mostly well, and yesterday I managed to get some pool time in. Still haven’t run since last Tuesday though. The rut is a small one. My workout this morning was frustrating. I just couldn’t seem to hit the power target. Not sure why, but I tried adjusting the resistance on the trainer twice, deflating and re-inflating my rear tire, and…

Weekly Workouts – May 8 to May 14

Weekly Stats: Swim: 5900m, TSS 147.4 Bike: 311 km, TSS 702.2 Run: 20.1 km, TSS 153.7 Total Duration: 14:12 Total TSS: 1003.1 CTL: 118.9 ATL: 122.3 Form: -2.1 So I’m learning that sciatica is the worst. Doctor suggested not running for a while and the pool has been closed basically all week. That’s left me to cycle plenty. I’ve had a great cycling week as a result, but swim is less than desirable as is running. And ongoing back problems are…

Back to Work…..?

Back to Work…..?

Such a strange workout week. Dealing with two completely distinct issues: My back/sciatica. I posted twice this week already about my back, so I won’t go into detail about it again here. The pain is still there in my lower back area, though it is getting less and Advil seems to handle the worst of the pain. I’m doing physio exercises to strengthen the area and am hopeful that I have good, quick results. Not being in Aero is hell,…

Back to Work!

Back to Work!

Well if there was ever doubt in my mind about getting back into the swing of things, it is definitely 99% gone now. Since Monday, I’ve racked up 515 TSS (today being end of Wednesday) across all three disciplines. Whatever is going on in my back/leg doesn’t seem to be slowing me down. At least not much. I seem to be pretty much back to work across the board, and I’m pretty stoked about that. I did get to my…

Back to Work?

Back to Work?

Recovery week is over, so its time to get back to work. I think? In the last few posts I’d complained about a hamstring/calf problem. In the last 5 or 6 days of focused recovery that problem hadn’t gone away, which led me to skipping workouts. One would expect this would actually make the problem disappear, especially if it is a muscle strain or similar. Instead, the problem spread rapidly. My lower back area was stiff and painful 24 hours…

If there are Recovery Week Gods, they’re either on my side or firmly pitted against me.

If there are Recovery Week Gods, they’re either on my side or firmly pitted against me.

This was the oddest, best, and worst recovery week I’ve ever had by a wide margin. First the bad. It rained. For the entire week. Non-stop. Cold, wet, rain. The temps outdoor sat right around 5ish degrees or colder for just about the entire week, and once the rain started on Tuesday, it didn’t stop until Sunday in the wee early hours of the morning. The ground is absolutely soaked even with a full day of (relatively) nice weather. I…
