My Turbo is Crooked

My Turbo is Crooked

Earlier this week I saw a tweet from GCN @gcntweet asking about a cycling component that I’d “dream of owning.” Naturally there was just one answer that I have right now, though to be fair there are quite a few. One of the pricier things I’d love is a new turbo trainer. I’m currently using a Kurt Kinetic turbo that is in the “old” style – I’m fairly sure. It is about 11 years old, and has actually held up…

Busting Out

Busting Out

I’m busting out of this rut. Here’s what’s up. This morning I had a terrible ride. That makes 2 of the last 4 rides being awful, with the others being not particularly great. Antelope +5 is 7 x 10 min in the sweet spot over 2 hrs. Should be do-able. I’ve done it before. It’s actually kind of fun. But it sucked, hard. So hard in fact that I stopped my ride mid-ride. I finished the first hour and quit….

New Set of Blade Carbon Wheels First Impressions!

New Set of Blade Carbon Wheels First Impressions!

My new set of Blade┬áCarbon Wheels showed up today. I’m pretty excited to hit the road with them! The weather tonight disagreed, but I’ll have a better chance over the next few days to get some time with them. It is hard to write about new wheels that haven’t been ridden on yet, but I’ll include some photos of how things looked as I unboxed and installed the wheels. This isn’t a formal review, just some photos and some quick…

Ok, Ok… Spring is not a Lie!

Ok, Ok… Spring is not a Lie!

Well, turns out the sun came out today. All the snow that was here this morning is now long gone. The sky is blue. It ended up being a great spring day, not a brutal one like I thought. I guess spring is not a lie afterall! I mentioned earlier that I need new shoes. My runners – Triumph ISO – are pretty flat. I think they’re causing some problems. Aches and pains. That kind of thing. I’ve been trying…

My Love-Hate With the Local Bike Shop

My Love-Hate With the Local Bike Shop

Last week I noticed that my bottom bracket was having some mild grinding. No audible sound was coming, but it was definitely grinding on the down-stroke. I ride a 2016 Cervelo P3 which is fitted with a press fit BBRight bracket. And I’m completely incapable of performing this specific piece of maintenance. Thursday before hitting the pool I went down to my local bike shop to ask some questions about it. The guys in there are usually pretty nice, but…

I hate Treadmills

I hate Treadmills

They’re the worst. Treadmills are awful. I’m very angry with mine right now. I’m skeptical at the best of times that I’m getting “as good” a workout from treadmills as I do from outside. There are obvious benefits – pacing being out of my control is one of them. I find it much easier to sustain a difficult pace on a treadmill than out in the real world. But that also has me thinking that I should be better at…
